Pam initially suspects something between Karen and Jim Halpert when She is devastated that her efforts to support her friend Jim serve to drive him into. While it might have been a nice touch to finally watch Jim get a taste of his own medicine, it may have also made it blatantly obvious that Jim and Karen were going to end up together.
Instead, their relationship got to unfold more naturally throughout season three. However, when he returns from New York and asks to take Pam out for dinner, he is still technically dating someone else. I jumped on the train way late and actually caught the show on Netflix after weirdly and for honestly no good reason refusing to watch it during its original run. Everyone and their mother is obsessed with Jim and Pam. They are goals and hope that your long-suffering crush on a friend might turn into a fruitful marriage one day.
Jim pines for Pam. Pam clearly has some sort of affection for Jim. Season 2 is peak Jim and Pam. They are at their best when innocently flirting. At the season 2 finale, Jim confesses his feelings and kisses Pam. We come back in season 3 to see Pam reject Jim.
Which is the realistic move. Pam is not going to be spontaneous. Real life Pam probably marries Roy. She sticks with what she knows.
More discussion was probably needed. A vendor stops by the office and ultimately asks who the office administrator is when no one knows how to help him. Pam confidently stands up and proclaims she is.

Then she gets the bright idea to talk her way into an official position complete with raise. Pam tells Gabe - who is really the one who can approve the job - the paperwork and raise must have gotten lost in the merger. Then, she manipulates the department heads for signatures.
Gabe figures out what Pam is trying to pull, but she bluffs him when he should have told her no. Pam had one stipulation: Pam did get the first account at the Michael Scott Paper Company.

From that point until Jim steps away from his position at Athlead, their communication faltered, which was different from the previous seasons and probably contributed to the animosity. Pam was ecstatic, amazed he had done something as grand as that.
Then, Pam goes ahead and sells the house without talking with Jim. You can tell he expected Pam to give up that life to be with him. Time passed, and Jim went to work at another branch to try to get over Pam.
